My parents took me to watch a play today.
Plays used to be a very major part of Indian culture and its entertainment industry before ofcourse, the introduction of theatres and modern films. They have now declined with its audience now being majorly senior citizens or only people passionate about theatre.
I'm not complaining about online platforms, I love watching movies and shows from the comfort of my own home.
But the play has this almost reminiscent? quality to it. Its dialogue was in a pure tongue. I even had to ask my dad what the meaning of some words and sentences was.
My parents had been very particular about not letting their kids forget their history even if we grew up abroad so my knowledge of language and history is a bit better than the other kids my age but even I was struggling
to completely understand the context of some sentences.
The play itself was very enjoyable though. The writers had tried their best to achieve a balance between the old and the new generations as much as possible to make the show enjoyable for everyone.
It was funny. It was sad. It was entertaining.
When we got home, we ordered in. It was a rare, good evening for us together.
